The “Night View System” Using Near-Infrared Light

This paper describes a near-infrared type that has been developed to assist driver vision at night. In this new system, the internal structure of the near-infrared camera has been changed. The camera and HUD have been optimally tuned, and the near-infrared floodlight activation and the HUD intensity are controlled in accordance with the vehicle speed in order to suppress the effects of glare. With the developed system, images captured by the near-infrared camera are sent directly to the HUD without any processing. The future task is to incorporate an image-processing device in the system, which results in clearer image presentation, enabling the driver to determine whether an object on the road ahead could be hazardous.
