Throughout the history of the environmental movement, industrialists and environmentalists have often been at odds. Economic progress demands environmental sacrifice, it has been the, and vice versa. This paper reports that recently the two sides in this debate have moved closer together and begun to search for a common ground that will allow America-and the world-to enter an age of sustainable development, an age in which we can have our economic cake and a healthy environment to eat it in, too. A study recently released by A.G.A., the Alliance to Save Energy (ASE) and The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) demonstrates that substantial emissions reductions, increased employment in the U.S. energy industry and significant overall economic growth can be achieved simultaneously-without federal intervention in the marketplace.
