An integrated approach for implementing a distribution automation system

This paper presents the main aspects of the design of an integrated information system for implementing a distribution automation system (DAS) consisting of: (1) supervisory control, data acquisition system and distribution management system (SCADA-DMS), (2) outage management system and crew management system (OMS-CMS), (3) trouble call system (TCS). The DAS can also include other computer-based systems to be integrated, for example: (1) geographic information system (GIS), (2) customer information system (CIS), (3) work management system (WMS), (3) asset management system (AMS), (4) PCs and workstations on the corporate WAN. The article addresses system integration using an enterprise application integration (EIA) methodology, which gives utilities a simpler, faster, and less costly method of integrating legacy and new systems.
