Modification of truss structures using linear modification method

This paper describes a technique used to modify dynamic characteristics of an undamped truss structure. The technique is based on the Linear Modification Method (LMM) proposed by the authors recently for structural dynamic modification. It is formulated using a 2-dimensional truss structure and its finite element model. A number of examples are given to demonstrate the implementation of this technique to achieve selected structural modification outcomes. They include relocating a natural frequency, an anti-resonance frequency and pole-zero cancellation of a truss structure. The paper also discusses briefly the advantages and disadvantages of this technique over other methods developed for structural modification.
