ROUTES OF CORTICOSTEROIDS ADMINISTRATION AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH CORTISONIC GLAUCOMA DEVELOPMENT OF: EVIDENCES SYNTHESIS Introduction: Corticoid-induced glaucoma is a disease characterized by increased intraocular pressure and loss of visual acuity associated with prolonged use of corticosteroid medications. The national literature lacks reviews that evidenced the main clinical factors related to corticoid-induced. Aim: To carry out a literature review in order to elucidate the relationship between corticosteroid administration and the development of corticoid-induced glaucoma. Method: A literature review was performed using the Publish or Perish computational tool, selecting the most cited and the most recent articles, without temporal cut. Only scientific articles were included in the review. Studies that only discussed surgical correction, besides work done on animal models, were eliminated. Results: Of the 98 initial publications, 20 had a high number of citations and 14 were considered recent. Of the 34 publications, after the application of the exclusion criteria, 17 articles were read in their entirety and presented in chronological publication order. Conclusion: Corticoid-induced glaucoma is effectively caused by prolonged use of corticosteroids, is associated with increased intraocular pressure, and is more common in young individuals. At the time of diagnosis, the use of corticosteroids should be discontinued and antiglaucomatous therapy should be initiated immediately.
