The quality of a particulate material is commonly assessed on the basis of its Attrition Index. In this context, attrition is the susceptibility of a particulate material to degradation of particle size under the mechanical impact that occurs during its handling and processing. Alumina with a poor attrition index can lead to loss of product and can create environmental pollution during handling. This paper proposes to develop a more fundamental understanding of alumina particle breakage considering the velocity of the material during a single impact. The output of the research works would be helpful for alumina refineries/industries as well as food and pharmaceutical industries will be benefited using the expected experimental model for assessing the attrition of alumina, and also the environmental agencies to understand more accurately the pollution levels caused by process industries. A brief result of experiments for alumina attrition has been demonstrated.
