Three-Dimensional Visualization of Breast Cancer

Film-screen mammography is currently the most sensitive modality available for the early detection of breast cancer, yet it often fails to clearly indicate or contraindicate malignancy. As a result, many biopsies are performed, but only 1 in 4 biopsies result in the detection of cancer [1]. Biopsies represent a major expense and are a significant deterrent to women entering breast cancer screening programs. A definitive, noninvasive method of distinguishing benign and malignant breast lesions is essential.
