Creating Meanings for the Infinite Through a Logo-based Microworld

In this paper, I present the design of a computer microworld for the exploration of infinite processes such as infinite sequences and series. The activities of the microworld use the Logo programming language as a means to construct diverse types of representatio ns (symbolic, visual, and numeric) for such infinite processes. The environment and the representational systems it involved were designed to serve as tools which can give a new meaning to infinite sequences by allowing the learners —through the construction of “unfolding” graphical (and numeric) models— to “visualise” the behaviour of those processes. Fractal figures were also used and conceived as “limit-objects” of infinite geometric sequences.
