Finite Element Procedures for Estimating Shrinkage Stresses During Soybean Drying

ABSTRACT THE finite-element numerical technique has been de-veloped to calculate stresses in an elastic (Hookean) sphere and has been used to simulate shrinkage stresses in a remoistened soybean. Maximum shear stress under all drying conditions occurred within the first 4 h of dry-ing and have been plotted for the first 6 h of drying. Maximum shear stress has been plotted for one drying condition throughout the entire drying period. For the same condition, tangential and radial stresses have been plotted at the time of occurrence of the maximum shear stress.
