Wideband monopole fractal antenna with Hilbert fractal slot patterned ground plane

In this paper, we investigate the radiation properties of a novel monopole microstrip fractal antenna for UWB applications, which is made of a novel radial arrow fractal slot pattern around a square slot inside a circular metallic patch. A partial ground plane (PGP) together with a break in the ground plane (BGP) are used wherein Hilbert fractal slots are also cut out. The antenna has a wide bandwidth ranging from 1.65 GHz to 14.6 GHz for S11 < −10 dB. Various mobile communication services such as DCS, IMT-2000, UMTS, WLAN, DMB, and UWB can be easily covered by the proposed antenna simultaneously. The input impedance bandwidth and gain of the proposed antenna are improved and some miniaturization is also achieved. Its radiation efficiency is also noteworthy. In this paper, details of the proposed antenna design approach and measured results are presented. and discussed.
