A repeatered regional/WDM local access network for delivery of broadcast digital TV

We have demonstrated the delivery of a digital video service over a repeatered regional/local access network. A single commercial uncooled 1.3-mm distributed feedback transmitter at the head end is capable of serving 2,028 subscribers, with a total distance from head end to host digital terminal (HDT) to subscriber of 46 km. Sensitivity measurements show the wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) PON performance to be within 0.25 dB of the non-repeatered baseline for optical input powers to the HDT of -34 dBm.
