Upgrading for economical operation by combustion control at 250MW coal firing power plant

For the economical operation of pulverized-coal firing power plants, several technologies on combustion control were demonstrated at the Saijo Power Station No. 2 unit, 250MW pulverized-coal firing boiler. They are the combustion optimization to improve the combustion efficiency using the combustion diagnostic system for individual burner named FISS, Fiber Integrated Spectral-analysis System, the combustion modification for the utilization of fly ash, and the Wide Range Pulverized Coal Burner (WRB) a high turndown pulverized-coal burner, to realize a low load operation and a smooth load change during pulverized coal combustion. From the results of the demonstration tests, it was confirmed that those activities were very effective to operate pulverized-coal firing power plants economically.
