ECONOMICS OF DIESEL MULTIPLE UNIT OPERATIONS

The purpose of this paper is to compare the economics of operating locomotive hauled commuter rail trains to diesel multiple unit trainsets. The basis of comparison will be the Tampa Bay Commuter Rail Authority operating plan developed as part of a study probing the feasibility of implementing commuter rail service in the 32-mile Lakeland-Tampa Corridor.
