PULSED PLATE LIQUID EXTRACTOR DESIGN.

The principles involved in liquid extraction column design are reviewed briefly. Particular reference is made to the effects of axial dispersion and polydispersivity on pulsed perforated plate column performance. Results obtained from an ongoing experimental investigation of continuous phase backmixing in a 72 mm diameter column of this type are presented. The experiments were designed to investigate the variation of backmixing with changes in pulsation frequency and amplitude, and phase flowrates using a steady state tracer injection technique. The results are described in terms of the physical phenomena occurring in the column.
