Terrorism is a term used to describe an action or actions intended to instill fear and uncertainty in a population. Terrorists are often fundamentalists intent on securing their intolerant, limited views and personal agendas. This book attempts to describe the issues involved in aviation safety and security. What is at stake, what is involved, and what are the consequences of failing to recognize the potential threats and acting to minimize the risk. Focusing on aviation and airports, the topics include consideration of the aviation industry and the importance of air transportation for passenger service and cargo transport; the hijacking threat and response mechanisms; international cooperation and solutions; roots of terrorists and terrorism; major counter terrorist organizations; airport security measures including those for passengers, employees, building access and perimeter controls; and security and rules of law including application of the US Constitution;
