Effect of heat-treatment on microstructure and properties of TA15 alloy

The effects of heat-treatment on microstructure and properties of TA15 alloy were studied.The results show that the Widmanstaten microstructure formed by heating TA15 alloy in β phase region exhibits similar strength,higher fracture toughness and fatigue crack propagation resistance,compared with that of the equiaxed α and(α+β) TA15 alloy formed by heating the alloy in α+β phase region and then cooling using different cooling rate.The width of α lamellae and α colonies depends on the cooling rate.The TA15 alloy with Widmanstaten microstructure obtained by heating it in β phase region and then cooling in air exhibits middle tensile strength,higher fracture toughness and fatigue crack propagation resistance.
