Comparison of Guided and Discovery Learning Strategies

60 volunteer female university students randomly assigned to either a variable guidance, single guidance, or discovery group performed initial acquisition and transfer trials of the Mirror Target Toss Test. All three groups exhibited similar acquisition curves on the initial task. Significant differences on the last acquisition block and first transfer block were found between the discovery group and the variable-guidance group, with the former exhibiting the poorer performance. Means for the second transfer block were similar, indicating adjustment to the task.
