Optical loss effect on Sagnac sensitivity of circle-coupled resonator structure

We propose a configuration of integrated waveguide structure consisting of resonators coupled to a circle waveguide. Sagnac effect in this structure and loss effect as well as impact of through coupling coefficient on system sensitivity were analyzed and discussed. It showed that system sensitivity gets higher with more passive ring resonators in lossless structure, while considering loss the sensitivity can only be improved by adding more resonators when the propagation loss is lower than the threshold, which depends on structure size, through coefficient and light wavelength. As the propagating loss of waveguide gets lower, this configuration has larger potential to realize highly integrated optical gyroscope for rotation sensing.
