Chapter 8 – Special Installations

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the installations. The majority of other special installations to be reviewed in this chapter can be classified in two big groups: tubing deployed and alternative deployed electrical submersible pump (ESP) systems. Tubing deployed installations still follow the original configuration of the ESP system and utilize the well's production tubing string to run and retrieve the necessary downhole equipment. The tubing deployed installations all have the common drawback that running and retrieving the ESP equipment can only be done with relatively high capacity workover units. Since these are not always available and offer their services at elevated prices, workovers on conventional installations severely affect the economics of ESP operations.
