Theoretical Study on the Forward/Backward Sweep Power Flow method, which based on loop analysis theorem, is proposed in this paper. It is proved that the Forward/Backward Sweep is not equivalent to loop analysis theorem theoretically in this paper. And the reason for the deterioration of this algorithm’s convergence for meshed network is also well analyzed. Furthermore, a novel Forward/Backward Sweep algorithm for mesh network is developed which is firmly based loop analysis theorem. The convergence of this novel algorithm is improved dramatically for meshed network, while it is simple as the former back/forward sweep method for implementation. The relationship between this novel algorithm and Newton method are also studied. Though, this algorithm is not as good as Newton method in convergent speed, the calculation burden is very light. Thus, this algorithm is very efficient. The numerical test shows that the convergence of this algorithm becomes faster, when more loops are closed in the same system.
