Abstract Composting processes in two MSW recycling plants sited in Valencia were investigated. Each used piles aerated by mechanical turning, although with different methodology. The influence of the methods on the development of the process and final product characteristics was studied. The evolution of physical, chemical and physico-chemical parameters that give most information about processes occurring in the composting piles was investigated, along with other analytical characteristics of the composts.
