In this work a review is made of the literature concerning the properties of liquefied natural gas (LNG), the mechanics of collision, structures for collision protection, and statistics regarding collision. Bayes' Rule is applied to derive a distribution on absorbed energy in collision, using available data. A method for predicting absorbed energy, given various structural and design parameters, is applied in a computer program to determine the probability of not exceeding the value of absorbed energy necessary for given penetration. The results of parametric analyses show that deck parameters, have the greatest influence on increasing these probabilities.
