The Influence of Courses Integrating Atayal Culture and LEGO Dacta on the Programming Ability and Creativity of Aboriginal Children

In this study, we developed a programming and creativity science course module combining Atayal culture and LEGO Dacta. We investigated the influence that the courses and instruction exerted on the programming ability and creativity of aboriginal schoolchildren. The participants of this study were 41 Atayal elementary school students from Taiwan. Teachers employed collaborative problem-solving strategies to teach 8 lessons. The results showed that the students’ performance in a programming language usage test improved substantially. The students also exhibited substantial improvements in 2 creativity subtests and their overall technological creativity. These results indicate that the course integrating aboriginal culture and LEGO Dacta enhanced the programming and creativity performance of aboriginal children.
