Tinea capitis was known in Romania before World War I, when Nicolau (1909) first reported the discovery of a catisative agent, T. violaccinn. Twenty years later, anotlier derniatophyte, M. aiulouinii, was the second causative agent of tlie contlition to be discovered. After anotlier six years, M. canis was also described (Teodorescti et al.). Soon after, otlier organisms were reported to attack the scalp, so that the number of tinea capitis cases increased after the second World War. Tlie many observations accnnuilated during this time gave us the opportiniity to evaluate some epidemiological aspects, wliich may offer a general view on the evolution and dynamics of tinea capitis in Romania. Otir study of tinea capitis after World War II included a survey of 6,500 cases seen in the Derniato-venereological Center in Bucharest, from 1945 to 1969.
