RF Transceiver System Design: From Protocols to Specifications

The transceiver design flow from protocols to transceiver specifications is presented in this paper. The digital baseband data processing is introduced for better understand that how the data is dealt with and what the difference is between the single-carrier and multi-carrier systems. The transceiver specifications deduction based on protocol is discussed, including the noise factor (NF), the linearity, the power gain, the phase noise and the ADC effective number of bits (ENOB). In addition, the spectrum translation in low-IF transceiver is also presented. This paper helps the radio frequency (RF) circuits and systems designers to gain the insight of the transceiver not only from the RF part but also from the digital part.
