ANALYZING CONFORMANCE MONITORING IN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL USING FAULT DETECTION APPROACHES & OPERATIONAL DATA

Conformance monitoring is a critical function in air traffic control to ensure that aircraft adhere to assigned trajectories. New air traffic control (ATC) technologies such as decision support tools and enhanced surveillance systems are being developed which may enable more effective conformance monitoring. There is, therefore, a need to develop analysis techniques that help identify effective conformance monitoring approaches. A technique to address these needs is described in this paper using fault detection methods. The implementation and utility of the technique is demonstrated through analysis of data from commercial aircraft flight tests and ground surveillance systems. Additional conformance monitoring insights provided by the data are also discussed.
