CICTP 2012 : Multimodal Transportation Systems : convenient, safe, cost-effective, efficient : proceedings of the 12th COTA International Conference of Transportation Professionals : August 3-6, 2012 Beijing, China/ edited by Fang "Clara" Fang ...

Proceedings of the 12th International Conference of Transportation Professionals (CICTP 2012), held in Beijing, China, August 3-6, 2012. Organized by Chinese Overseas Transportation Association (COTA); Beihang University; Research Institute of Highway at China Ministry of Transport. Sponsored by the Transportation and Development Institute of ASCE; Transportation Research Board of the U.S. National Academies. This collection contains 369 peer-reviewed papers on transportation development in China and other countries, with a particular focus on multimodalism. Rather than manage each form of transportation as a discrete element, a multimodal approach connects them so that a single trip can make use of multiple modes. Transportation policy for the different modes is coordinated and integrated. The resulting multimodal system should be convenient, safe, cost-effective, and efficient, thus advancing transportation sustainability, energy independence, economic vitality, and quality of life. Topics include: comprehensive transportation planning; traffic flow theory, operation and management; traveler and traffic information and control; vehicular networks and vehicle infrastructure integration; public transportation; railway transportation; civil air transportation; logistics and freight transportation; traffic safety and emergency response; transportation energy saving and environmental protection; and pavement and materials engineering and highway maintenance. These papers are a valuable source of the-state-of-art research in transportation science and engineering and will be of interest to researchers, practitioners, and students of transportation engineering.
