Comparison Between Stylus and Optical Methods for Measuring Surfaces

Abstract In recent years there has been a considerable growth in the use of optical methods for looking at surfaces. This paper compares these methods with that of the stylus technique. It shows that the way in which they are developing seems to be complementary rather than competitive.
