Cross-correlation as a new evaluation tool in pulsed eddy current defectoscopy

The pulsed eddy current defectoscopy belongs to powerful methods of nondestructive testing of metal bodies aimed at revealing various changes of their material parameters, defects, cracks, and other undesirable imperfections. The quality of their identification strongly depends on the tools for evaluation of signals monitored by the measuring system. So far, the principal evaluation technique in this domain was their spectral analysis. The paper presents another promising evaluation tool-the cross-correlation of the measured signal with a suitable reference signal. The technique is illustrated with two examples.
