An LMMSE receiver structure and performance in WCDMA uplink

A modular LMMSE receiver for the 3GPP WCDMA FDD shortcode option is presented. The LMMSE receiver is implemented with a separate signal processing module placed in front of a conventional detector. The structure, algorithms, numerical aspects, complexity and the performance of the receiver are studied. In performance simulations conforming to 3GPP Rel'99 physical layer specifications the receiver is found to provide a 0.5 - 1 dB gain over the conventional detector in the studied cases.
