SCATTERING PROPERTIES OF DISTILLED AND NATURAL WATERS1

Measurements of the volume scattering function and other optical properties are presented for distilled water, Pacific coastal and offshore water, and lake water. The depth and time variability of Pacific water at one station is given and the effect of a wind storm on the optical properties of the lake water is demonstrated.
