Optimal capacity of energy storage system for wind farms with adapting the scheduling

In this paper, an optimal capacity model of battery energy storage system (BESS) for wind farm integration with adapting the scheduling plan is proposed. By analyzing the characteristics of wind output, the equivalent cycle life of BESS considering the effects of irregular charge and discharge on cycle life is introduced to the optimal model. From the point of view of the maximum net benefits of the wind storage union system, an optimal capacity model of BESS with considering investment costs, operating benefit, and wind curtailment saving is proposed based on the unit commitment. Thus, a more reasonable model is achieved with considering the influence of BESS providing reserve capacity on wind output uncertainty and the adaptability of BESS charge/discharge process to the scheduling plan. Finally, results based on the above analysis are listed to show the effect of equivalent cycle life and the reserve degree on the optimal BESS capacity. A foundation is laid for allocating BEES capacity of wind farm in matching with the dispatching operation.
