Electromagnetic articulography in coarticulation research

This paper gives an overview of the basic methodological issues relevant to the use of electromagnetic articulography in experimental phonetics. The following topics are covered : measurement principle, sources of error, environmental conditions, combination with other equipment, disturbances to the subjets' speech, safety. Finally, an example is given of how this technique can provide new information on lingual articulation even within the framework of a very simple coarticulation paradigm
