Activities Implemented Jointly as an Instrument for the Mitigation of Global Warming

The aim of this paper is to give an introduction to Joint Implementation (JI). Therefore the first two parts outline the scientific and economic background of this concept. This is followed by an explanation of the basic concept of JI with its advantages and problems. Afterwards JI is distinguished from and compared with emissions trading. A section on the actual status of JI in the UNFCCC process rounds off the paper.
