Induction motor parameter estimation through an output error technique

Simulations of induction motors for power system studies are often hampered by unavailable and/or inaccurate parameter data. A method for the in situ measurement of the parameters of a machine and load combination is given. This uses an output error estimation technique combined with supply voltage perturbations. The technique yields optimum parameter values with minimum disruption to the machine's normal operation. Verifying tests were conducted on individual motors as well as for a group of machines. The results indicate good correlation between estimated values and values obtained from conventional tests. >
