PURPOSE: A method for providing augmented reality by a user selection area, a server thereof and a portable terminal thereof are provided to receive data about a selected region and immediately supply an augmented reality service. CONSTITUTION: A portable terminal(110) receives selected local information through a key input unit, and transfers the selected local information to an AR(Augmented Reality) providing server(130). The augmented reality providing server compares pre-stored location-based information with the selected local information. The augmented reality providing server transfers the first location information data to the portable terminal, and the portable terminal synthesizes the first local information data with acquired image information.
