Determination of cyanide in waste water by low‐resolution surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy on sol‐gel substrates

We introduce the concept of low-resolution surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) for cyanide as a potentially highly useful, cost-effective approach to detection and analysis for monitoring water contamination. We present high-sensitivity, low-resolution measurements of cyanide in water using a solid-state gold sol–gel substrate. These data suggest a sensitivity limit for low-resolution SERS detection of cyanide in water in the region of 10 ppb. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
