New Control Strategy for Hybrid Power Filters Using Sinusoidal Signal Integrators for Current Reference Generation

A new control scheme, based on sinusoidal signal integrators (SSIs), is proposed in this paper for hybrid power filters. The aim is to simplify the implementation of the control strategy using an SSI filter to separate the harmonic currents from the fundamental component. This allows finding the correct current extraction without the need of a synchronous frame and phase-locked loop techniques. This procedure yields a significant reduction of the computational effort compared with other control strategies either based on the instantaneous reactive power (IRP) theory or implemented in synchronous reference frame (SRF). This idea is initially used for the transformerless hybrid power filter and subsequently extended to the other hybrid filter configurations that utilize a matching transformer. Simulation results for steady-state and transient load conditions are presented to validate the proposed scheme.
