GIDBS: A Database System for Hierarchically Represented Gray-Scale Images

One of the essential problems related to most gray-scale image processing systems is that there is usually a large amount of image data that needs to be stored and processed. For improving space/time performance, we have proposed a new hierarchical representation method called G-quadtree/G-octree for 2D/3D gray-scale images. To develop an integrated gray-scale image processing system based on such an approach, some new data management techniques should be employed to hide the internal data structure from users, and to facilitate the development of G-quadtree/G-octree image processing utilities.
