Review: The Image

As we all know in today's electronic media age, images are everywhere. But what precisely is an image? Is it an object, a perception or a phenomenon? And how is it formed? There are many theories of the image, but there has been no general theory since Kant's critiques at the turn of the nineteenth century with sufficient authority across the disciplines to answer these questions with a single elegant statement. Indeed, the concept of the image in Western culture continues to remain an unresolved and somewhat enigmatic one, made all the more so by the emergence of digital technology in recent times.
