Optimal Operation Strategies for Hybrid Power-Trains

Abstract This paper discusses the fuel-optimal operation of a specific class of hybrid drive-trains. Several optimization problems are posed and solved using a quasistatic approach. The main tool is the “Power-Train Toolbox”, which is a collection of possible power-train components (IC-engines, gear-boxes, CVTs, electric motors, fuel-cells, batteries, super-caps, etc.) and a methodology that allows to simulate “arbitrary” combinations of such subsystems.
