The Education of Learning Basic Control Theory Through Making a Governor

Abstract The control engineering seems to be a most practical engineering because of the prerequisite condition of the engineering curriculum, and is also acting a leading position in the state of the art. The aim of education on control system is to enable students to get the ability of systems design via flexible usage of the outcomes/results/knowledge in the control theory. We think it’s important to know how the system is made up by dealing with real systems, such as compositions of elements, in their early curriculum stages. With such frame we hold a seminar which gives an opportunity to learn control theory and to make (or compose) a real systems simultaneously. On this seminar the students make their governors by themselves. A governor is a very good example for our education, because it covers both control problems and mechanical essences in spite of its simplicity, and has thick historical backgrounds which are quite useful for young engineers to realize the realities.
