Reducing the Total Cost of Ownership

In this chapter, we have pointed out that lowering the cost of ownership of a BFWA network is a crucial factor for its success. Many aspects of the BFWA solution contribute to this reduction. In this chapter, we have elaborated three examples: Auto-directing antennas will simplify the installation of BFWA customer premises equipment, and reduce the number of truck rolls for the operator. WMAN-WLAN bridging enables wireless home gateways and hot-spots with wireless feeds. With the growing importance of multimedia applications, QoS provisioning is crucial for this interworking. “Pay as you grow” infrastructure combines multi-hop communication and advanced antenna concepts to minimize the required start-up capital for deploying and evolving a BFWA network.
