Some Notes on Luiseño Phonology

0. In this article, an attempt is made to tie up a number of loose ends that have been left in previous work on the phonology of Luisefio, a Southern Californian Uto-Aztecan language. First, a short survey is given of the work scholars have done so far; then, after an explanation of the notation, a brief sketch is provided of those aspects of vowel and consonant phonology which linguists have either failed to account for or have inaccurately observed. Finally, in the main part of the article, consonant alternations and a number of phonological processes connected with vowels are reexamined, and a detailed treatment of vowel length alternations and syncope is given.
