An overview of CAD tools developed at IETR for the synthesis and optimisation of shaped lens antennas at millimetre waves

IETR has been developing for several years a set of CAD tools for the analysis, the synthesis and the optimisation of millimetre-wave shaped dielectric lens antennas. These tools are complementary and are based on various formulations based on ray tracing, Geometrical Optics / Physical Optics, Finite-Difference Time-Domain techniques, and modal expansion techniques. Several of them have been combined with numerical search techniques aiming at optimising the 3D shape of multi-material integrated lens antennas. In this paper, we provide the main features of these tools and describe some recent results obtained numerically and experimentally from 30 to 77 GHz.
