Factors controlling the effect of crumb rubber on critical properties of asphalt binders

The purpose of this paper is to summarize the results of a project conducted to evaluate the effects of Crumb Rubber Modifiers (CRMS) produced by different processes on basic rheological properties of asphalt binders. The evaluation was done using the new testing and aging procedures developed for the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP). The results were used to quantify the effect of CRM source and CRM content on rheological properties at a wide range of testing temperatures and loading conditions. Statistical models were developed that represent the nature of effects on performance-related properties of asphalts.
