Abrupt loss of dependence of retinopetal neurons on their target cells, as shown by intraocular injections of kainate in chick embryos

We have examined the capacity of neurons in the chick isthmo‐optic nucleus (ION) to survive when their target neurons in the contralateral retinal are destroyed by intraocular injections of kainate (KA) at different stages in development.
