The induction motor (IM) drive is a complex system prone to uncertainties and perturbations. This paper presents a high order sliding mode control (HOSMC) in the outer loop to enhance the performance of three phase IM drive system. Model predictive control scheme is used to generate switching signals using the reference torque generated through the HOSMC. The proposed control scheme is compared with the PI and sliding mode control (SMC) scheme. The proposed HOSMC paradigm is validated using extensive simulations carried out in MATLAB/Simulink. The results shows the superiority of the proposed control scheme over PI and SMC in terms of robustness to external perturbations and chattering elimination.
