Development of STEP For the Reduction of Added Resistance In Waves

In this paper, the development of the energy saving device STEP that reduces the added resistance in waves due to the wave reflection is described. The optimum size and the optimum position for STEP were investigated for the installation to the 170 meters long pure car and truck carrier. It was shown that the STEP reduces the added resistance in waves by 18% in the object condition, and reduces the amount of CO2 emission by 2% in head sea of Beaufort scale 6.
