Distributed architectures for Web content adaptation and delivery

The increased penetration of wired and wireless accesses to the Internet from heterogeneous client devices is a visible reality. The ubiquitous accessibility combined with the dynamic generation of personalized content adds a new dimension to the idea of adaptation and delivery of Web resources. Ubiquitous Web access is deployed by introducing new technologies on the top of pre-existing Internet services. However, the final result is much richer than the sum of the single components. This chapter proposes a taxonomy of the main adaptation services and analyzes the system infrastructures that can provide efficient generation and delivery of transcoded and personalized content.
